Virginia Rep's Financial Challenges and Community Response
Virginia Repertory Theatre, a cornerstone of Richmond's arts scene, is currently facing significant financial difficulties. Following the appointment of managing director Klaus Schuller in August, the theater adopted a policy of transparency, openly communicating its challenges through social media and public forums. The situation escalated with the cancellation of the production "Fat Ham," which sparked considerable public reaction. Schuller's candid updates on social platforms have fostered a mixed dialogue within the community, reflecting both support and skepticism. As Virginia Rep navigates this crisis, the local arts community feels the strain, given the theater's historical role in providing stable employment for artists. With preparations underway for their upcoming summer musical, "Waitress," uncertainty looms over the future of the company. The unfolding narrative is expected to remain in the public eye, highlighting the ongoing struggle within Richmond's vibrant theater landscape.Media and Trailers

Arcade Fire, anyone?
I will gladly put up with four days of port-a-potties again next year. Farmer's market? Light-up swing set? Roller rink?! Hell yes. And that's just the campground. Some of my favorite performances were the Chemical Brothers, Arcade Fire (one of the best shows I've ever seen), Crystal Castles, the Black Keys, Chromeo, the Bloody Beetroots, Two Door Cinema Club, Gogol Bordello,,, you get the picture. I've never experienced anything like Coachella. It's sort of like summer camp for grown ups. When was the last time you went skipping around in bare feet, eating a giant slice of watermelon and singing at the top of your lungs? Yeah, it's like that. Normal social expectations of adult behavior go out the window. Recommendations for next year, bring a shade structure to put over the tent, fill the cooler with as much ice as possible before leaving town ($10 a bag in the campground), possibly bring a camping shower, and bring warmer bedding for when the temperature drops like 50 degrees at night... oh, and bring my own fresh squeezed lemonade!
